The faster companion to FlowCast, for smaller castings and thinner pieces. EcoPoxy's data sheet limits it to 25 mm (1 in) per pour, with 4 to 5 hours of working time for a 25 mm casting; its data sheet and application guide give different times before the next pour.

The Application Guide says this is typically 18 hours

What the numbers mean for a pour

Pours needed with a limit of 0.98 in per pour. Worked out with the layer planner.

Total thicknessPoursEarliest start of last pourNotes
1 in (25 mm)1no wait (one pour)–
2 in (51 mm)2not calculated (see below)–
3 in (76 mm)3not calculated (see below)–
4 in (102 mm)4not calculated (see below)–

The data sheet gives different waits for different layer thicknesses (0.51 in, 0.98 in). No schedule is calculated; read the published wording for your 1 in layers.

What the manufacturer says

Paraphrased from the manufacturer’s documents.

Intended use

  • FlowCast SPR is the faster-reacting companion to FlowCast, meant for smaller castings and thinner live-edge pieces such as serving trays and coasters.Page

Heat

  • Because it reacts faster and runs hotter than FlowCast for the same casting size, it is not suitable for larger pours.Page
  • Peak exotherm is 125°C (257°F) for a 1 kg casting; reactivity is rated low-moderate.TDS
  • Cured glass transition temperature by DSC is 52°C (126°F) for the 25 mm casting and 39°C (101°F) for the 13 mm casting.TDS

Layering

  • Pours deeper than 25 mm and/or larger than 3 L may need several thinner layers to avoid overheating; wait until the first layer is fully set to touch, sand with 220 grit and wipe down before the next.Page
  • For 25 mm castings EcoPoxy advises against pouring a second layer while the casting is still hot, and recommends waiting for set to touch and abrading first.TDS

Other notes

  • The SDSs give calculated densities of 1.18 g/mL for Part A and 0.97 g/mL for Part B, consistent with the TDS specific gravities.SDS A
  • Part B density is listed as 0.97 g/mL in its SDS.SDS B
  • The TDS lists a theoretical cured density of 1.11 g/cm3 (0.040 lbs/in3), not a mixed-liquid density.TDS
  • Liquid Color Pigments should not exceed 3% of total volume (about 4% by weight).Instr.
  • Shelf life is two years unopened and three months once opened; store at 15-25°C (59-77°F).Page

Surface preparation

  • Surfaces that will be submerged should be seal-coated (UVPoxy preferred) to stop air and moisture escaping and forming bubbles.Page

UV and color

  • UV stabilisers eventually lose effectiveness, so finished projects should not be kept outdoors; pigments help resist yellowing.Page

Safety data sheet summary

Signal word: DangerSDS B

Part A hazard statements

  • H315 Causes skin irritation
  • H319 Causes serious eye irritation
  • H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction

Part B hazard statements

  • H314 Causes severe skin burns and eye damage
  • H318 Causes serious eye damage

Protective equipment

  • Wear chemical-resistant, impervious gloves and inspect them before use.
  • Wear safety glasses or goggles for Part A.
  • For Part B, use safety glasses with side shields or goggles, consider a face shield against splashes, and wear full body protection.
  • Wear an approved respirator if engineering controls do not keep airborne concentrations below exposure limits.

Ventilation

  • Provide enough ventilation to keep vapor, mist and dust levels below workplace exposure limits, with eyewash stations and safety showers nearby.
  • The Part B SDS gives the same ventilation requirement.

A summary, not the full SDS. Read the SDS for both parts before use and follow its first-aid section in case of exposure. This is not medical advice.

Where the manufacturer’s documents disagree

  • Maximum mass or volume per pour: 3L (TDS and product page) vs. up to 2L per layer (Application Guide v2.1) (TDS, Instr.). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • Time between pours: set to touch at 24 hours (25mm) / 32 hours (13mm) (TDS) vs. set to touch, typically 18 hours after the previous pour (Application Guide) (TDS, Instr.). The table shows the value from the TDS.

The documents listed below give no value for: Pot life; Specific gravity, mixed; Density, mixed. We leave these blank rather than estimate them.
