A pre-pigmented white casting epoxy for river tables and furniture. EcoPoxy's data sheet gives a maximum of 38 mm (1.5 in) and a minimum of 13 mm (0.5 in) per pour, 7 hours of working time, and a 15 to 22 hour window for the next layer.

What the numbers mean for a pour

Pours needed with a limit of 1.5 in per pour. Worked out with the layer planner.

Total thicknessPoursEarliest start of last pourNotes
1 in (25 mm)1no wait (one pour)–
2 in (51 mm)2not calculated (see below)–
3 in (76 mm)215 h after the first, if the conditions below are met–
4 in (102 mm)3not calculated (see below)–

The published wait applies to a 1.5 in layer; your layers are 1 in. No schedule is calculated for a thickness the data sheet does not cover.

Only if these published conditions are met: pour the next layer while the previous one is tacky to touch (no abrading needed); same 14 L / 38mm test casting at 22°C (72°F)

The published wait applies to a 1.5 in layer; your layers are 1.33 in. No schedule is calculated for a thickness the data sheet does not cover.

What the manufacturer says

Paraphrased from the manufacturer’s documents.

Intended use

  • SnowWhite is a pre-pigmented opaque white casting epoxy for river tables and large furniture, so no pigment needs to be measured.TDS

Heat

  • Peak exotherm reached 99°C (211°F) in a 1.5 kg casting.TDS
  • The cured resin has a glass transition temperature of 39°C (102°F), above which it may deform under load.TDS

Temperature

  • EcoPoxy gives 22°C (72°F) as the ideal working temperature; the resin cures slower when cooler and faster and hotter when warmer.TDS

Layering

  • For pours of 16 L or more, several thinner pours and fans blowing across the surface help prevent overheating.Page
  • Pour the next layer once the first is tacky to touch; if it is no longer tacky, sand it with 220 grit and wipe it down first.Page

Other notes

  • Mix the resin alone for 1 minute, then add hardener and mix 4-5 minutes; partial kits must keep the 2:1 volume (3.1:1 weight) ratio.Page
  • SnowWhite does not shrink, but it can seep into cracks in live-edge wood, so the resin level may drop and need topping up.Page
  • The TDS gives a theoretical cured density of 1.38 g/cm3; this is for cured resin, not the mixed liquid.TDS
  • Store at 15-25°C (59-77°F); shelf life is two years unopened and 3 months once opened.Page

Safety data sheet summary

Signal word: DangerSDS B

Part A hazard statements

  • H315 Causes skin irritation
  • H319 Causes serious eye irritation
  • H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction

Part B hazard statements

  • H314 Causes severe skin burns and eye damage
  • H318 Causes serious eye damage

Protective equipment

  • Wear chemical-resistant, impervious gloves and inspect them before use.
  • Wear safety glasses or goggles for the resin.
  • For the hardener, wear side-shield safety glasses or goggles, consider a face shield for splashes, and wear full body protection.
  • Wear an approved respirator if engineering controls do not keep airborne levels within limits.
  • Emergency eye wash stations and safety showers should be close to where the product is used.

Ventilation

  • Provide enough ventilation to keep vapor, mist and dust below workplace exposure limits.
  • The hardener SDS gives the same ventilation instruction and says to use it only with adequate ventilation.

A summary, not the full SDS. Read the SDS for both parts before use and follow its first-aid section in case of exposure. This is not medical advice.

Where the manufacturer’s documents disagree

  • Specific gravity or density, Part B: Specific Gravity Part B at 22°C (72°F) 0.978 (TDS) vs. Density 0.9658 g/cm3 (20 °C) (SDS Part B, section 9) (TDS, SDS B). The table shows the value from the TDS.
