A 1:1 coating epoxy for countertop resurfacing. Stone Coat's data sheet lists a maximum casting thickness of 0.25 in but recommends no more than 1/8 in per application, and gives 45 to 55 minutes of working time and 14 to 24 hours between coats in a 65 to 75 °F room.

What the numbers mean for a pour
Automatic planning is suspended for this product: its documents give more than one depth limit (1/8 in, 1/4 in) for different applications or sources, and we do not choose between them. Read the published wording and enter the limit that fits your project in the layer planner.
What the manufacturer says
Paraphrased from the manufacturer’s documents.
Intended use
- Beyond resurfacing kitchen and bathroom countertops, Stone Coat says the epoxy can also serve as a moisture-protecting woodworking finish.TDS
Coverage
- At 3 oz per square foot for a color coat plus a clear coat, a 1-gallon kit covers 20 sq ft (1/2 gal = 10, 2 gal = 40, 4 gal = 80).TDS
- The product page gives application rates of 2-3 oz per sq ft for a clear flood coat and 4-6 oz per sq ft for a dirty pour.Page
Surface preparation
- Porous substrates such as live-edge wood or concrete may need a thin seal coat at about 1 oz of mixed epoxy per square foot.TDS
Temperature
- Keep the room above 65°F for the first 48 hours of cure; high humidity slightly shortens working time.TDS
Heat
- The TDS lists a heat deflection temperature of 130°F.TDS
- The product page claims the cured coating can briefly withstand up to 450°F but still advises using a trivet or hot pad.Page
- Applying thicker than the maximum recommended thickness can cause warping and possibly a fire because the cure is exothermic.TDS
UV and color
- The product page states that the epoxy provides UV resistance; no outdoor-use guidance is given.Page
Other notes
- Light use is allowed after 24 hours, and the product page gives a 12-month unopened shelf life and 6 months once opened.Page

Protective equipment
- Wear impervious gloves such as butyl or nitrile rubber.
- Wear chemical safety glasses or goggles when handling the resin.
- Wear chemical safety goggles or a face shield when handling the hardener.
- Use an approved organic-vapor respirator if ventilation is not adequate; supplied-air for high exposure or emergencies.
Ventilation
- Use the resin with adequate general or local exhaust ventilation to keep exposure low.
- Use the hardener with properly positioned local exhaust ventilation to stay below occupational exposure limits.
A summary, not the full SDS. Read the SDS for both parts before use and follow its first-aid section in case of exposure. This is not medical advice.
Where the manufacturer’s documents disagree
- Working time: 45-55 minutes (TDS table) vs. long working time of 45 minutes (TDS description) vs. Working time ranges between 55-75 minutes (TDS Step 5) vs. Work Time: 45 minutes (product page) (TDS, TDS, TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
- Full cure: Total Cure Time 7 days (TDS table) vs. Full cure and maximum hardness can require up to 3 days (TDS Step 5) vs. Full Cure: 30 days (product page) (TDS, TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
- Maximum pour depth per layer: Maximum Casting Thickness .25 inch (TDS table) vs. We recommend pouring no more than 1/8" per application, depending on mass poured (TDS Step 3) (TDS, TDS). Both statements are in the TDS; the table shows “.25 inch”.
- Maximum mass or volume per pour: Do not mix more than 3 gallons at one time (TDS) vs. Max Batch Size: 1 gallon (128 oz) (product page) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
- Recommended temperature: ideal working temperature around 65-75°F (TDS) vs. Application Conditions: 68–75°F and 55–65% relative humidity (product page) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
- Recoat window: ready for another coat in 14-24 hours with no need to sand (TDS, sentence names 'The Art Coat') vs. Sand/Topcoat: After 24 hours (product page) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
