A 2:1 deep-pour epoxy that Superclear's instructions rate for pours up to 4 in thick in a 70 to 84 °F room. The instructions say it begins to thicken within 8 to 12 hours, while the product page gives 30 to 45 minutes of working time. The next layer goes on when the previous pour is tacky and nearly hard.

What the numbers mean for a pour

Automatic planning is suspended for this product: its documents give more than one depth limit (2 in, 4 in) for different applications or sources, and we do not choose between them. Read the published wording and enter the limit that fits your project in the layer planner.

What the manufacturer says

Paraphrased from the manufacturer’s documents.

Intended use

  • FGCI describes the Liquid Glass system as a slow, low-heat, low-shrink resin for large castings, art, imitation water and encapsulation.TDS

Other notes

  • Part A (base resin) weighs 9.3 lb per gallon with a viscosity of 750 cps (±50), per the TDS table.TDS
  • Part B (curing agent) weighs 8.2 lb per gallon with a viscosity of 80 (±10), per the TDS table.TDS
  • The SDS gives Part B density as 0.983 g/cm3 at 20°C, while its 'specific gravity' line shows 8.2 pounds per gallon.SDS
  • Colorants such as alcohol dyes, micas and liquid pigments may be added up to 12%, but acrylic-based colorants are not recommended.Instr.
  • Shelf life is 6-12 months unopened and 3-6 months once opened, depending on storage.Instr.

Heat

  • The TDS table gives a gel time of 18-24 hours (100 g mass at 77°F) and 1 hour at 160°F; the values print on separate lines from their labels.TDS
  • Small castings can be accelerated by heating to around 180°F, depending on the application and mold.TDS
  • The TDS lists a heat distortion temperature of 150-160°F with a maximum of 200°F.TDS

Temperature

  • FGCI advises against pouring outside if you can help it, especially above 84°F, and recommends raising the mold and using fans to shed exotherm heat.Instr.

Surface preparation

  • A thin seal coat of SuperClear Table Top Epoxy is recommended, and the deep pour should go on while that seal coat is tacky.Instr.

UV and color

  • The product page calls the resin UV-stabilized and non-yellowing, while the instructions say not to expose the product to direct sunlight.Page

Layering

  • The product page lists a single-pass pour depth of 2 to 4 inches; it does not call 2 inches a minimum.Page

Safety data sheet summary

Signal word: DangerSDS

Part A hazard statements

  • H315+H320 Causes skin and eye irritation
  • H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction
  • H335 May cause respiratory irritation

Part B hazard statements

  • H302+H312 Harmful if swallowed or in contact with skin
  • H318 Causes serious eye damage
  • H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects

Protective equipment

  • For the resin, wear impervious latex, rubber, vinyl or nitrile gloves.
  • For the resin, chemical splash goggles are advised, though OSHA also allows other safety glasses.
  • For the curing agent, wear chemical splash goggles and/or a face shield plus impermeable gloves.
  • For the curing agent, use a NIOSH/MSHA-approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded without proper environmental controls.

Ventilation

  • Provide exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep curing-agent vapors below threshold limits, with eyewash and showers nearby.
  • The instructions say to use the product only in a well-ventilated area with gloves and eye protection.

A summary, not the full SDS. Read the SDS for both parts before use and follow its first-aid section in case of exposure. This is not medical advice.

Where the manufacturer’s documents disagree

  • Working time: begins to thicken within 8 to 12 hours (instructions) vs. working time is 30–45 minutes (product page) (Instr., Page). The table shows the value from the Instr..
  • Full cure: Cure Time 36-48 Hours (TDS) vs. takes 24-72 hours to completely cure (instructions FAQ) vs. do not disturb for 72 hours to ensure a proper cure (instructions step 8) vs. Full Cure ~30 days (product page) (TDS, Instr., Instr., Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • Recommended temperature: Ideal working temperatures are generally 70°F to 84°F (instructions FAQ; product page 70°F – 84°F) vs. Ideal working temperature is 70-74°F (instructions directions) (Instr., Instr.). Both statements are in the Instr.; the table shows “70°F to 84°F”.
  • Maximum pour depth per layer: up to 4” thick per pour (instructions; product page 2 – 4 inches single pass) vs. SDS product name reads 'SuperClear 2.0 Liquid Glass 2" Thick Pour' (Instr., SDS). The table shows the value from the Instr..
